Know the Importance of Computer Maintenance

Maintenance Software – Software maintenance is an activity that starts from the time the software is used (after delivery) until finally the software can no longer be used (retired). The aim is to correct errors (to correct), improve performance / functionality (to improve), adapt to the environment (to adapt), or to prevent errors (to prevent).

With the diversity of software maintenance goals, the types of software maintenance can be divided into 4 as well, namely correction maintenance, improvement maintenance, adaptation maintenance, and prevention. However, in general, the types of software treatments can be grouped into two broad categories, namely correction and enhancement treatments. The second type of treatment includes improvement, adaptation, and prevention.

4 Types of Maintenance Categories in Software

  1. Corrective maintenance, we do this when a bug is found in the system and we must make repairs.
  2. Adaptive maintenance, when the system we create must adapt to changes to the environment in which the system is running. For example, when creating an Android application, we have to perform maintenance when the Android version is upgraded, so that our application remains compatible.
  3. Perfective maintenance, when system users or stakeholders change the requirements of the system we build.
  4. Preventive maintenance, when we want to improve the quality of the system we build or want to fix a bug before it occurs.

Aspects of Maintenance Activities

Some of the important aspects of treatment planning are:

1. Planning is an activity to carry out a function. Important aspects in planning care :

  • Structural arrangement of maintenance activities to be carried out
  • Development of a maintenance system
  • Controlling and recording activities
  • Application of maintenance and recording systems

While the factors that must be considered in the preparation of maintenance planning are the scope of work, work priorities, skills requirements, labor requirements, equipment requirements and material requirements.

2. Inspection, inspection activities that have been arranged regularly will maintain engine performance in an optimal state and can function according to standards. The inspection activities consist of:

  • Operational inspection
  • Termination check
  • Overhaul check.

3. The selection of components or spare parts is the most important activity in carrying out the overhaul activity. By selecting spare parts according to machine specifications will keep the machine able to work in standard conditions.
